- People respond psychologically to colour. Colour can change your design dramatically by sending different messages.
- Colours also have symbolic associations, occasionally varying by culture.
- A touch of the right colour can add visual excitement to your design.
- Limit your designs to using only 2-3 colours.
- When the colours of the rainbow are placed in order in a circle, they form a colour wheel. Use the wheel to see which colour complements another colour. Each colour's adjacent, triadic, or split-complementary can found.
- Complementary colours enhance each other, and are directly opposite one another on the colour wheel. E.g. Red & green, yellow & violet, blue & orange.
- Triadic colours are found by drawing a triangle on the color wheel - the three colours joined are triadic. E.g. blue, red & yellow.
- Warm colours run from red to orange to yellow.
- Cool colours run from green to blue to violet.
